Being a sports therapist, we hear this a lot from patients. The old beliefs of needing a physio for muscle or joint pain or a chiropractor for a back problem can often be true but most therapists of any background can help with the majority of pain complaints.
You would be correct to assume that a sports therapist spent most of their studies learning around athletic injuries. But what we were actually learning while doing this was the links between movement and injury.
You might have seen Olympic weightlifters on TV picking up incredible weights off the ground and if that wasn’t impressive enough, they then throw that weight above their head. Now you might quietly sit there in amazement and think “I could never do that” but we all occasionally pick up a heavy box in the garage and place on a high shelf. The farmers walk in strongman events is so called because it mimics the action of a farmer carrying haybales or milk churns two at a time.
So yes, we are sports specialists, but we also recognise that a long-distance runner overtraining and a call centre assistant tackling Mt Snowdon may both come into clinic with the same hip injury. Our knowledge of musculoskeletal injuries and how to help you recover from them can be extremely useful to anyone from footballers to firefighters, acrobatic gymnasts to accountants.
So if you’re experiencing problems stopping you from delivering the post or delivering an Olympic medal, give us a call to see if our dedicated team of therapists can help you achieve your goals.
